Today is Day 5 of the #write31 challenge. Every Monday I will share encouragement through a hymn or song that the Lord has used to build my hope and set my eyes on Christ.
Last week I shared how after going through a battle against post partum depression I was left very fearful as I realized the weakness of my faith and was afraid that my faith would fail and I wouldn’t be able to endure through other seasons of deep temptation and trial. During that time Lord comforted me with the truth of Jeremiah 32:40: “I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never turn away from doing good to them, and I will put fear of Me in their hearts so they will never again turn away from Me.” Christ shed his blood and committed Himself to do me good and put His fear in my heart so that I never turn away from Him.
I found this song, When I Fear My Faith Will Fail, sometime last year. It so powerfully ministered to my heart, meeting me right where I was. I was so thankful to discover lyrics that asked the same question I had. This song stubbornly holds on to this truth–Christ will hold me fast. I love that the phrase “He will hold me fast” is on repeat throughout the song. I can boldly proclaim this! “He will hold me fast! For my Savior loves me so, He will hold me fast!”
Even today, as I listened to this song again, the following words strengthened my heart:
“Raised with Him to endless life,
He will hold me fast
‘Till our faith is turned to sight,
When He comes at last!”
Recently I have found myself tempted to doubt His love for me and to doubt even my standing before Him, and it seems all I can hear are words of condemnation and guilt. To dwell in those words is just another way of walking by sight but because He is holding me fast I can keep walking by faith, resting on what Christ has done for me, knowing with all my heart He truly “loves me so.” Lord, thank you for making my heart sing once again.
